About Woodstock Orchards

Woodstock Orchards is situated on the banks of the Huon River in southern Tasmania about a 45 minute drive from Hobart. This location was chosen because it has several advantages when it comes to growing quality cherries.

Being on a north facing slope the trees are able to enjoy the entire day spent in full sunshine for general tree health and to ripen the cherries more evenly. Growing next to the Huon River also means that any frosts which occur during the blossom and early fruit stage have very little impact on the orchard.

The orchard is planted on fertile soil which is ideal for growing cherries giving the trees the right amount of vigour to allow the full flavour of the fruit to develop as it ripens.

The trees are carefully pruned each year to allow sunlight in to all areas of the tree, this select pruning of the tree is also how we manage the crop load on the tree to ensure that all the fruit is going to be large and tasty.

All the varieties grown were chosen to provide us with a good spread of maturity to extend our harvest season. Our earliest variety ripens in mid December with the last variety ready to pick in late January.
